Sun’s out, supercars out – the summer concours season is here
There’s no shortage of rare, valuable and collectible cars in London on any given day, but for the past three years there have been 48 hours in particular during which to go car spotters have had cause to flock to the capital. This year that time period is right now, with the London Concours up and running once again.
Hosted at the Honourable Artillery Company’s historic headquarters, an oasis of calm hidden in the heart of the City of London, the event plays host to 80 of the world’s most iconic motoring machines, set against the unique backdrop of the urban skyline. With categories including ‘Innovators’, ‘Outlaws’ and ‘Lost Marques’, sections dedicated to cars specifically from Ferrari, Jaguar and Germany and displays by dealers and brands alike, there really is something for everyone – provided they like cars, of course.
Highlights? It’s hard to know where to begin. The first thing that caught our eye was the ‘Icons’ lineup, featuring among others a Ferrari F40 LM, 1931 4.5-litre ‘Blower’ Bentley and the McLaren F1 ‘XP5’ prototype car, which set the record for world’s fastest production car with its famous 240.1mph run in 1998.
Almost every supercar of note from the past couple of years was on display, with the Ford GT, Aston Martin DBS Superleggera, Ferrari 488 Pista and Bugatti Veyron standing out. The latest generation was rather shown up by cars from slightly less recent memory, though, with the Aston Martin One-77, BMW M1, Jaguar XJR15, Bugatti EB110 Supersport and Ferrari 288 GTO stealing the show.
If you weren’t there then you missed out, basically. Luckily for those who may not have made it this year, however, we took a few snaps of our favourite entrants for you to see; make sure to get along next time the Concours rolls into town.
