Lotus Esprit JPS Edition: Reader’s Car of the Week

A wedge-shaped car wearing JPS colours? Best label this one NSFW…

With only a month to go before PH takes to the grid in an EnduroKA racer, liveries have naturally become the talk of the office. We’re hoping that in much the same way the clothes make the man, an awesome colour scheme will equate to immense respect on the grid. But what livery to go for? Ah yes, JPS.

Just look at PHer Bob-iylho’s new purchase: a freshly restored Lotus Esprit JPS World Champion Commemorative edition dressed in its original colours. This 1979 car – chassis 94 and just one of 100 in Britain – looks as futuristic today as it did 40 years ago, with those gold leaf stripes accentuating its wedge-shape and the typically 70’s font for World Champion. And just look at those gold wheels.

Bob’s car has been completely cleared of rust, the details of how we’ll leave him to explain, but the cabin has some signs of wear and there are a few tasks remaining to really bring it back to its best. The work is not done – and this is an old Lotus, so expect more jobs to arise. It’s all part of the fun of owning one of Chapman’s finest.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for this stunning example from Lotus’s heyday. And as for the KA – well, naturally someone beat us to it. Back to the drawing board.
