AVAS emits a low-level alert sound to warn nearby pedestrians.
Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new safety feature in the Grand Vitara. The hybrid variants of the SUV will now be equipped with Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS).
According to Maruti, AVAS emits a low-level alert sound to warn nearby pedestrians. It is said that the sound can be heard up to 5 feet away from the car. This feature can be crucial, especially when the vehicle is being driven in electric mode.
With the introduction of AVAS, the Grand Vitara hybrid now complies with the Automotive Industry Standard (AIS) 173, which requires electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, fuel-cell vehicles, and fuel-cell hybrids with at least one electric motor or an electric motor generator to be equipped with a pedestrian warning system.
The introduction of AVAS has also reflected in the prices of the Grand Vitara hybrid. Maruti Suzuki has hiked the prices of hybrid variants by Rs 4,000, resulting in a starting price of Rs 18.29 lakh (ex-showroom).
