According to videos shared on YouTube, two MG Hectors caught fire. The first fire was reported in Bandra, Mumbai. The car is said to have been a diesel model. The second incident was reported at LG House Road in Delhi. This car is said to be a December 2019 make, petrol DCT model and is claimed to have run less than 9,000 km.
In both cases, the fire originated from the front of the car. The exact sequence of events leading up to the incidents are not yet known.
The MG Hector is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 141 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 250 Nm @ 1,600-3,600 rpm and a 2.0-litre diesel with 168 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 350 Nm @ 1,750-2,500 rpm. The petrol hybrid variant uses a 48-volt lithium-ion battery that offers an additional 20 Nm of torque assistance when required. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.
