We've had car shows come and go with no official midengine Corvette C8 reveal, but prototypes and leaks about the next-gen ‘Vette are popping up everywhere. Now we have video proof: Autoweek reader Tim P. shot this midengine Corvette prototype puttering along on surface streets like it's no big deal. The engine note is subdued since the C8 is doing about 40 mph, so there's not much hint as to what's beneath the rear cover, but the styling and Ferrari-like angles are perfectly apparent even with the modest camo.
Assuming this is a base model C8, it's likely powered by an upgraded LT1 V8, possibly dubbed LT2. Higher-performance versions are rumored to be powered by a twin-turbocharged V8, likely based on the Blackwing V8 that we saw debut with the CT6-V. Rumors claim these models have between 900 and 1,000 hp — enough that prototypes may be deforming their aluminum spaceframe chassis.
Check out these C8 Corvette videos and see what you think; the shape alone is enough to get us excited for a first drive.
