Details of the next-generation Mahindra XUV500 and Ford’s compact SUV have been revealed. The two SUVs will be based on the same platform.
Mahindra’s SUV (codename: W601) and Ford’s SUV (codename: W605) will be based on a monocoque chassis. The two cars will be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDi turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 187 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm at 1,750-4,000 rpm. Both the SUVs will also be available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
Ford’s SUV will have a different design and could come with a shorter wheelbase and length. The XUV500’s design could take inspiration from the Funster EV concept.
It is said that Ford’s SUV will have better quality and will be enthusiast-focussed with better dynamics whereas the XUV500 will be family-focussed and will offer better value for money.
The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 could be launched in 2021. Ford’s SUV will come later.
