Motorsports Community Pays Tribute to Stirling Moss on Social Media

The racing world lost a true legend on Sunday with the passing of Sir Stirling Moss, who died at his home in London at the age of 90 after a long illness.

Moss, from 1951 through 1961, finished runner-up in the Formula 1 World Championship four times and third in three other seasons. He won 16 F1 races in 66 starts and was credited with 212 victories over several racing disciplines in his career.

A crash at Goodwood put Moss in a coma for nearly a month and left him partially paralyzed on the left side of his body for six months, in effect ending his racing career.

Moss never really left racing, however. He was a racing expert for the long-running ABC’s Wide World of Sports TV show, and he was a regular visitor to various vintage motorsports events around the world, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Monterey Historics and Pebble Beach, the latter where he was an honorary judge for many years.

Moss, who was knighted by Prince Charles in 2000, went on to a second career in the property business and racing in historic events before retiring at the age of 81. He retired from public life in 2018.

The racing world paid its tributes en masse on social media. Here’s a look at some of those tributes:
