New 2020 BMW M2 CS leaked ahead of official launch

Images of the BMW’s new range-topping, rear-wheel-drive, limited edition M2 CS coupe have surfaced online, previewing its styling in full

Images of the limited edition 2020 BMW M2 CS have been leaked online, ahead of the car’s official release. It will act as a rival to the new Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R in terms of exclusivity as, when it goes on sale next year, production will be limited to just 2,200 units. Pricing information is yet to be announced.

Styling revisions over the standard BMW 2 Series are extensive, with replacement carbon fibre components for the car’s front splitter, rear diffuser, roof, bonnet, boot lid spoiler and mirror caps. There’s also an aggressive new bodykit, larger lightweight alloy wheels and the German brand’s trademark quad-exit exhaust system.

According to the leaked information accompanying the images, the BMW M2 CS will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine, producing 444bhp and 550Nm of torque. As standard, the engine sends drive to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and offers a 0–60mph time of four seconds dead.

A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will also be offered, which will lower the M2 CS’s 0–60mph time to 3.8 seconds. Under the skin, there’s a set of adaptive dampers, an adaptive power steering system, a chassis brace between the two front suspension towers and an electronically controlled valved exhaust silencer.

Inside, the new BMW M2 CS features a pair of leather-and-Alcantara-trimmed bucket seats with contrasting red stitching, an Alcantara sports steering wheel, an Alcantara-trimmed centre console, carbon fibre door-pulls, BMW’s iDrive infotainment system and, unusually, what looks to be a conventional analogue gauge cluster.
