Hot Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 SUV has been spotted refuelling at the Nurburgring’s petrol station
This is our first look at the Mercedes-AMG GLB 45. When it reaches the UK market in 2020, it’ll act as the performance flagship variant for the new GLB range. Upgrades over the standard SUV include a more aggressive body kit, an all-new engine, alongside expected chassis tweaks and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.
The camouflage around this mule’s chunkier bumpers, wider side skirts and flared wheel arches indicate this is the range-topping ‘45’ variant, as does its crudely rigged large-bore exhaust system. A new tailgate spoiler also features, along with a lowered ride height, a set of larger brake calipers and drilled discs.

As the standard Mercedes GLB shares its platform with the A-Class hatchback, we expect this performance variant will lift its engine and drivetrain from the soon-to-be-released AMG A 45 hatchback. As such, the AMG GLB 45 should get Merc’s all-new turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering up to 415bhp and 500Nm of torque in its most potent ‘S’ badged form.
The GLB 45 should also be offered with a less potent standard tune in Europe, with 382bhp and 480Nm of torque. However, this entry-level variant is unlikely to make it across the Channel to the UK.
As with all Mercedes-AMG models, we expect the new GLB 45’s interior will feature a pair of heavily bolstered sports seats, an AMG sports steering wheel and a reconfigured infotainment system with additional settings for the chassis and engine upgrades, but by and large the interior will be lifted from the regular car but with a sporty finish. It’s unclear if like the standard GLB, the GLB 45 will be offered with the option of seven seats.
