In August 2020, Mahindra released a video demonstrating the off-road capabilities of the second-generation Thar. Now, the company has released a new video showing some more of the vehicle’s off-road abilities.
The SUV comes equipped with brake locking differential, advanced roll over mitigation, hill hold and hill descent control. It also gets independent front suspension, a breakover angle of 27 degrees, approach angle of 41.8 degrees, departure angle of 36.8 degrees, 650 mm water wading capability, 226 mm ground clearance, and gradability of 31 degrees. The SUV rides on 18-inch wheels 255/65 all-terrain tyres.
The Thar is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder mStallion petrol engine that produces 150 BHP and 320 Nm. It is also available with a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit that makes 130 BHP and 320 Nm. Both engines are available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. A four-wheel drive system with a manual shift transfer case is standard across all variants.
The new Thar is available in two trims – AX (Adventure Series) and LX (Lifestyle Series) and comes with a fixed soft top, a hard top or a convertible soft top.
