Ford’s luxury subsidiary, Lincoln, took the covers off a new SUV at the Manhattan show. The Corsair, which is inspired by the Latin word “corsus”, is Lincoln’s first attempt at a compact premium SUV. It will go on sale in the US later this year, and will sit below the recently-launched Aviator in the brand’s 4×4 range.

Mercedes

Mercedes-AMG A 35 saloon

Mercedes is planning a packed stand for this year’s New York Auto Show. Opening its display is new AMG A 35 saloon, marking the second model launched under the brand’s entry-level 35 range. It’s powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol as its cousin, the AMG A 35 hatch, producing 302bhp and 400Nm of torque.

The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 coupe-saloon will also make an appearance at New York. Like the firm’s new performance A-Class saloon, it’s based on similar underpinnings to the AMG A 35, coming fitted with a 302bhp four-cylinder petrol engine, all-wheel-drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has given its GLC Coupe a mid-life facelift, too, pulling its styling, engines and technology from the recently-revised GLC SUV. Major updates include a new range of petrol-hybrid powertrains and the addition of Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. Due to reach the UK later this year, it will act as the sole rival to the BMW X4.

Finally, the firm’s flagship seven-seat GLS SUV will make its worldwide debut. Acting as a direct rival to the BMW X7, Audi Q8 and the Range Rover, it’ll likely feature a range of new combustion engines (potentially shared with the S-Class), 48-volt mild-hybrid electrification and a raft of new technology, including Mercedes’s latest four-wheel-drive system.

Just 1,948 examples will be built, each expected to cost north of £200,000.

Subaru

Subaru America has officially announced that the all-new Outback will make its debut at New York. Like the previous model, it’ll be offered with a turbocharged flat-four engine, a slightly raised ride-height and all-wheel-drive.
