I was once told by a Chevy Corvette representative that its buyers wanted the biggest engine, along with the best interior, along with an automatic transmission along with the convertible roof. That’s why we have the Corvette Z06 convertible with a paddle-shifted eight-speed. I think the buyers of grand tourers are the same. Hence, we now have the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante, an open-top version of Aston's fastest standard-production car (we’re not talking limited-edition variants like the Valkyrie or One-77 here).
Like the DBS Superleggera coupe, the Volante gets some weight savings, though a little less than the 170 pounds the DBS shaves over the DB11 (only about 30 pounds over the DB11 Volante). There's also the same 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 making 715 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. That’s good for a 3.6-second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 211 mph.
