Huayra BC too rare, and too common? Time to consider a Huayra Dragon
While it’s taken a little while to get going – the Huayra launched in 2012 – it seems like Pagani is finally following Zonda’s lead with ever sillier flagship variants. Picking up where the Huayra Benny Caiola of 2016 left off this Huayra is rumoured to be called the ‘Dragon’ – and from a company that has made cars called the ‘Fantasma’, ‘Passione’ and ‘Zozo’, Dragon seems to fit nicely.
This video comes from the Franciacorta test track, apparently revealing a much, much more serious car than we’ve seen from the twin-turbo V12 thus far. The test mule sports a wild LMP-style rear diffuser and more prominent rear spoiler, roof scoop and what look like larger intakes at the front and sides. Even compared to the “more than 750hp” BC, this Huayra looks like a significant step forward.
Just what that will be isn’t clear, though having a such a large, twin-turbo’d engine surely leaves a lot of tuning headroom. The McLaren Senna (with 800hp), the 730hp-per-tonne Brabham BT62 and the SF90 Stradale Ferrari have been revealed since the Huayra BC; therefore a follow-up with less than 800hp seems fairly unlikely. While we’d hope for a dual-clutch transmission to partner that, expect the automated manual to continue.
Rumours so far are suggesting that the Dragon will go into production once all the Huayra Roadsters have been made. Given that car was announced two years ago with a confirmed 100-unit production run, that surely can’t be far off.
Whatever it is, whenever it’s going to turn up and however many are actually going to be made, consider us pretty keen to know more about a new Pagani. The track-focused, loony fast and crazy expensive supercar sector is about to get a new competitor…
