Polestar, Volvo’s hybrid and electric-vehicle sub-brand, took the wraps off its Polestar 2 EV, a week before the car makes its Geneva show debut.
The company says its all-wheel-drive Polestar 2 has a roughly 300-mile range from two electric motors and a 78-kWh battery pack. System output is 408 hp and 487 lb ft of torque, good enough for a 5-second zero to 62 mph time. An optional performance package adds Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch wheels.
The 27-module battery pack is integrated into the floor, contributing to chassis rigidity and improving noise levels. Volvo in fact says road noise is reduced 3.7 dB compared to a traditional chassis.
The five-door hatch, priced against Tesla’s Model 3, goes on sale next year. Polestar’s first car, the Polestar 1 two-door coupe, is a pricier plug-in hybrid luxury coupe going on sale later this year.
