This weekend, a horde of trucks will invade NCM Motorsports Park, part of the National Corvette Museum complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and, no these trucks won’t be driven by a jorts-wearing phalanx of 50-somethings there to trailer their new Corvettes home. Instead, they will be a passionate group of enthusiasts piloting Pro Touring pickups that would likely give more than a few Corvettes a run for their money.

The Pro Touring Truck Shootout was organized in part by Arnie Gonzalez, a fast-talking sport truck enthusiast, and owner of Tricky Air & Billet and OBSChevyRacing.com. He wanted a venue for like-minded folks to get together for some friendly competition as well as a traditional parking-lot car show and manufacturer’s midway.

The event takes place August 8 and 9, 2020 at NCM Motorsports Park, and the competition slots have already sold out. Competitive events include four classes of autocross, a Speed-N-Stop challenge, and a driveability cruise. Arnie had these cool trophies made at a local fab shop to be awarded to winners of the various competition categories.

Trucks from many big-name builders across the country are slated to be present, but the real beauty of this event (and of building a pickup in general), is that they are much more affordable to build than most cars from the ’60s or ’70s. This pickup was built by a group of automotive technology students at Cumberland County High School, in Crossville, Tennessee, specifically for the event.

Arnie will be bringing the GMT400 Chevy he calls RedX, a vehicle he uses to test the control arms and coilover kits he’s developed for this generation of GM pickups. Find more info about the event at ProTouringTruckShootout.com and OBSChevyRacing.com. We will be watching the action on social media from our Left Coast exile, so be sure to tag any pictures or videos from the event with #PTTS2020 so we can spot them.
