If you’ve put a deposit down for a Tesla or a Solar Roof and want your money back, it may take months, according to an Automotive News report. Our sister outfit interviewed 17 people who made deposits with Musk and Co., changed their minds and have yet to receive money back. Or they did get the money back, but it took more than six months.
Toronto-based Tamara Tanney asked for a refund after she got tired of waiting for new Tesla. It’s been a year so far, and the money has not shown up in her bank account.
"If this is the service you get as a new client, I can't imagine the kind of service you would get as a current customer," said Tanney.
According to AN, Tesla finished the year with $800 million in customer deposits, and remember, that cash operates as an interest-free form of borrowing. Musk did say, on a Jan. 30 earnings call, that “improving service in North America is the No. 1 priority for the company.”
Raj Armani, a 40-year-old Internet entrepreneur, said he waited 183 days to get his deposit back from April 2016.
"It was so hard to get an answer or a status," said Armani, who asked for his deposit back in August. "They always say they'll get back to you but never do."
