According to the UK government’s Intellectual Property Office website, Royal Enfield has applied to register the ‘Meteor’ trademark in Class 12 (Vehicles) and Class 25 (Clothing, footwear, headgear) categories. The trademark was filed on February 26, 2019.
The recent trademark filing suggests that Royal Enfield could be planning to bring back the Meteor name on a future model. In the 1960s, the company had introduced the 500cc Meteor and a Super Meteor with a 700cc parallel-twin engine.
Reports suggest that the modern Meteor could use the 650cc parallel-twin engine from the new Interceptor. However, unlike the Interceptor, the Meteor could feature old-school styling similar to the standard 350cc and 500cc models. However, these reports should be treated as rumours since there has been no official word from Royal Enfield yet.
Royal Enfield has also filed for the ‘Meteor’ trademark in the apparel category in India. However, it is under examination as a Polish individual has applied for it before them.
