According to a media report, BMW Motorrad has filed for a trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for M badged bikes.
The report suggests that the trademark filing includes the name of three bikes – M 1000 RR, M 1000 XR and M 1300 GS. It is unclear if this is just a naming change or a collaboration between the M division and BMW Motorrad. At present, BMW bikes come with the ‘S’ moniker and the M badge is reserved only for performance variants of BMW cars.
In 2018, the M division and BMW Motorrad tied up to develop the S 1000 RR. The bike came with an M package and M developed optional equipment. It had a specific paint job, carbon fiber wheels, a lighter battery, a sport seat, and a chassis kit to adjust the rear ride height.
