According to a media report, Ford is likely to launch a new SUV that will be based on the next generation XUV500 by the end of 2020.
The next generation Mahindra XUV500 is currently being developed in collaboration with Ssangyong. Ford’s version will reportedly feature an all-new exterior and interior. It might get some chassis modifications as well.
The Ford SUV is expected to be styled along the lines of the brand’s design philosophy featuring a wide grille with LED lights, flared wheel arches, larger wheels and tyres among others. Reports suggest that Ford is planning two variants of the SUV with six and seven seats respectively. It is likely to get a different dashboard design and instrument cluster compared to the XUV500. However, both cars might share a Ford SYNC3-based touchscreen infotainment system.
In addition to the platform, Ford is expected to borrow Mahindra’s BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine that is currently under development. The engine is likely to be paired with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Ford’s new SUV is likely to come equipped with all the safety features mandated by law. Additionally, the car might also get traction control, ESP and hill descent control.
