According to a media report, the next Ford EcoSport could be powered by a BS-VI compliant, small capacity petrol engine manufactured by Mahindra. The same engine is likely to be offered on the Ssangyong Tivoli-based compact SUV (codenamed: S201).
Earlier this year, Mahindra and Ford had signed a powertrain sharing agreement. As part of this, Mahindra would develop a low-displacement, BS-VI compliant petrol engine.
Currently, the Ford EcoSport is offered with 3 engine options – 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol unit that produces 121 BHP @ 6,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque @ 4,500 rpm, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 123 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 170 Nm @ 1,500-4,500 rpm and a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder diesel that makes 99 BHP @ 3,750 rpm and 205 Nm of torque @ 1,750-3,250 rpm.
