The Saleen Cup, a series described by organizers as a “five-event, arrive-and-drive race series,” is partnering with the Blancpain GT World Challenge America to give gentlemen racers a chance to race the Saleen 1 supercar. The race series put together by California-based Saleen Automotive will offer drivers — on a first-come, first-serve basis — a chance to compete in a five-race sports-car series. Races will be 50 minutes in duration and include two-driver teams. Champions in two different racing categories, one for drivers under age 23 and the other for 23-and-over, will win a factory seat in Saleen’s GT4 entry for 2020. The cost to race in the Saleen Cup is $42,000 per race weekend for two-driver teams, which breaks down to $210,000 for the full five-race season. Two-driver teams entering the full season prior to April 30 can get in on the action for $190,000. Race fields will include 20 cars. The new series in the process of developing an insurance program.
