According to a media report, Tata Motors has received more than 10,000 bookings for the Harrier. This is said to keep the production line busy for the next 4 months.
“We have more than 10,000 pending orders, which is extremely strong. Could we have done better, sure. I would have loved to. From my own expectations of delivering exceptional quality, we did not meet expectations, but we were good so far and improving every day,” said Guenter Butschek, Managing Director, Tata Motors.
Tata Motors had started accepting bookings for the Harrier in October 2018, while the SUV was launched in January 2019. The company had reportedly dispatched about 2,000 units by the end of February.
The Managing Director is also reported to have said that the lower dispatches were due to the implementation of a new product introduction process and that there was nothing fundamentally wrong with the product itself. There were some niggles that were addressed at the dealer end.
At present, Tata Motors has an 8% market share in the utility vehicle segment. In the current fiscal year, the carmaker has sold over 62,000 units with the Nexon compact SUV accounting for the majority of the sales.
