Tata Motors has claimed that it has sold 2 lakh units of the Tiago hatchback. Team-BHP’s monthly sales analysis shows that the car has consistently been the best-selling car from Tata Motors, frequently crossing the 8,000 sales mark.
The Tiago was launched in April 2016, and was the first product to feature the company’s IMPACT Design philosophy. It was designed with inputs from the Pune, UK and Italy design studios. The interior of the car features more than 20 utility spaces.
The Tiago is available in petrol and diesel variants. The car’s petrol engine is a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Revotron unit that puts out 84 BHP and 114 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder Revotorq unit that develops 69 BHP and 140 Nm of torque. Both engines get multi-drive modes – City and Eco. At launch, the car came with a 5-speed manual gearbox. In March 2017, an automated manual transmission (AMT) was introduced on the petrol version.
The year 2018 saw the introduction the Tiago NRG – a cross-hatch version and the Tiago JTP – a performance version of the car built by JT Special Vehicles (JTSV) – a 50:50 Joint Venture between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives.
The Tiago JTP is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 112 BHP and 150 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission.
