Orders open now for Model 3s over here, starting from £38k and arriving in June…
While the Model S established Tesla in Britain as a viable everyday EV, and is an undeniably important car as a result, the Model 3 arguably holds even greater significance for opening the brand up to an even wider audience.
Because while a Model S begins at more than £70,000, the Model 3 will be little more than half that – £38,050, to be precise, for the Standard Range Plus rear-wheel drive car. It’s capable of an estimated 258-mile WLTP range, 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 140mph. With £10,000 down and a 60-month term, the hire purchase payments are £543 a month. They’re not giving them away, of course, though it does make the Model 3 by the far the most accessible Tesla yet.
Two more models will be available in the initial UK line up, both with dual-motor all-wheel drive. The Long Range car is £47,050, and improves those keys starts by a substantial degree: WLTP range for this model is claimed to be 348 miles, 0-60mph is just 4.5 seconds and the top speed 145mph. The flagship Performance (£56,050) sacrifices a little of that range (329 miles) for an uplift in speed: a 3.2-second benchmark sprint and 162mph see to that. With the same down payment and term as the standard car, a Long Range is £712 a month on hire purchase, the Performance £881.
Tesla says that UK Model 3 orders received before May 10th will save £1,000 on Full Self-Driving, with deliveries due in late June and ‘prioritised based on reservation date, delivery location and configuration options.’ Sounds like the sooner the better, then, for those that are keen, and you only need look at the success of the S – easier for you to say – for a template the 3 will aim to mimic and ultimately surpass. We look forward to seeing one or two at this summer’s Sunday Services…
