The 2019 Acura MDX is here with a whole bunch of updates and one brand-new trim. Don’t expect a radically reinvented three-row midsize crossover (can a three-row midsize crossover even be radically reinvented?). The changes for the new model year are fairly minor — new interior trim wood, standard four-way power lumbar adjustments for the front seats and five new exterior colors. Plus, the active damper system, which we previously sampled and enjoyed on the MDX Sport Hybrid, is now offered as an option across the line.
But the biggest news is the rollout of the A-Spec trim. Don’t expect an MDX Type R here; A-Spec is an appearance package that offers a sportier look on the outside, with trim-specific 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires, a unique front fascia (yes, the big grille is still there), dark trim and larger exhaust finishers — you know, those things on the rear fascia that make it look like you’re packing a tuner-spec exhaust. A-Spec is the only way to get the new apex blue pearl exterior paint, as well.
Opting for A-Spec also changes up the interior feel with its red or black leather-trimmed Alcantara faux-suede sport seats, special A-Spec gauges and a sport steering wheel with paddle shifters.
