The BMW M3 sits among the pantheon of high-performance enthusiast cars, and while that reputation is well earned, it does come with a hefty expectations whenever a new model rolls along. Thankfully, we can confirm this latest BMW M3 lives up to its nameplate’s promise. This F80-generation M3 uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder for power and makes 473 hp in base trim. That number rises to 503 hp with the optional competition package. BMW mates that mill to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The only major drawback for this generation’s M3 is the unique styling of the car’s front.
On this episode of Quick Spin, a person that has wheeled every generation of BMW’s M3 puts the latest example to the test. Mark Vaughn climbs behind the wheel of the F80 M3 and pits it against California’s canyon roads while bringing you along for the ride. He also walks you around the car to highlight its facts and features, before addressing the polarizing styling on the 2021 BMW M3. Between these segments, Vaughn talks with host Wesley Wren and expands on his thoughts. The pair discuss the car’s styling, performance, and legacy. Closing the show, the pair explain what makes this latest generation of M3 special.
