The VW Touareg‘s engine line up will soon be a little less limited. Right now, you can have it with a diesel V6, and… that’s it. But along with a 335bhp petrol V6, VW has today announced that a 4.0-litre diesel V8 will soon be joining the range.
Spec it, and you’ll have 418bhp to play with. That’s a little less than you get in the Audi SQ7 – which has the same V8 with a different turbo setup – but you still have the full 664lb ft of torque to unleash upon the tarmac. 0-62mph happens in just 4.9 seconds – faster than a lot of hot hatches, and only slightly slower than VW’s own Golf R. It’s also an identical acceleration figure to the considerably lighter VW T-Roc R.
You can have it as either in ‘Elegance’ trim, which is “dominated by metal and cool colour tones,” VW says, or as Touareg ‘Atmosphere’ with a “warm interior environment where wood and natural tones prevail”. Neat.
Equipment levels are better the V6 TDI’s, with the V8-powered version gaining standard-fit air suspension, ‘Tirano’ 19-inch wheels (instead of 18s), a powered boot lid and more comfortable seats.
It’s due to hit several markets in May, although it’s not currently known if it’ll make it to the UK.
