The second dirt midget race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is as star-studded at the first

Based on the current entry list, the second BC39 Midget race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Dirt Track isn’t expected to be a letdown.

The current list is 55 strong and includes several NASCAR notables alongside the defending winner. There is no shortage of star-power for the midweek race that kicks-off NASCAR weekend at the world’s most-famous motorsports venue on September 4-5.

Brady Bacon won the inaugural event and will be joined by NASCAR Cup Series winner Kyle Larson, NASCAR Xfinity Series winner Christopher Bell and a host of dirt mainstays that includes Jerry Coons Jr., Dave Darland, Logan Seavey and Tanner Thorson.

Over 13,000 people attended the two-day USAC National Midget Championship event in 2018 on a temporary dirt track constructed inside turn 3 of the historic Indiana speedway. The race will include a unique format that concludes with a 39-lap feature Sept. 6 in honor of noted dirt star Bryan Clauson, who died in 2016 in a Midget crash in Belleville, Kansas.

Bacon will be joined by FMR Racing teammate Jason McDougal. Bacon is a two-time USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion and the leader of nine laps en route to his inaugural race victory at Indianapolis in 2018.

Three other series champions will be represented in the Keith Kunz Motorsports stable in Bell, Seavey and Thorson. Larson will also drive for Kunz alongside Tanner Carrick, Jesse Colwell, Holley Hollan and Tucker Klaasmeyer.

Coons and Darland are previous champions from the Petry Motorsports stable, that also includes perennial contender Kevin Thomas Jr., who finished third in the inaugural running at Indianapolis.

Clauson/Marshall Racing has entered their core group of four full-time USAC competitors for the event: Tyler Courtney, Chris Windom, Zeb Wise and Andrew Layser.

Courtney is the defending USAC champion and leads all driver with six feature wins thus far in 2019. His CMR teammate, Chris Windom is second in the standings, having won the 2016 Silver Crown championship and 2017 USAC Sprint Car championship.

Spencer Bayston, the 2017 USAC National Midget champion has entered, along with 2018 Jason Leffler Memorial winner Tyler Thomas, USAC National Sprint Car feature winners Brent Beauchamp and Matt Westfall.

On track action begins on Wednesday, Sept. 4, beginning with the drivers meeting in the IMS Media Room at 2pm. Public gates open at 3 p.m. with cars hitting the track for practice at 4 p.m., followed by opening ceremonies at 7 p.m.

The finale, on Thursday, Sept. 5, will have the public gates opening at 3 p.m. and cars on track for practice at 4 p.m., with qualifying races to follow at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies are slated for 7:30 p.m. and immediately followed by the main feature events, starting with multiple D-Mains and C-Mains, the semi-feature and the 39-lap main event.
