While all attention might now be focused on the new Supra – our review of which you can find here – Toyota has just dropped some pretty big news about the older versions of the coupe.
During an event celebrating the debut of the A90 Supra in Japan, Gazoo Racing president Shigeki Tomoyama confirmed the creation of a GR Heritage Parts Project, which will cover both the A70 and A80 Supra generations.
And that, for now, is all we know. Tomoyama-san said (translated from Japanese): “We can not answer specific part names this time, but we will make every effort to meet the expectations of the owner.”
The move comes after fellow Japanese firm Nissan announced an expansion of its similar Nismo Heritage Parts programme, which covers the R32, R33 and R34 generations of the Skyline GT-R. It’s already been up and running a few years, and now even includes components of the legendary RB26 inline-six engine.
As for whether Toyota’s programme will be quite so extensive, we’ll have to wait and see.
