The North Yorkshire firm will produce four ‘Remake History’ variants from its once 240-car strong batch
Remember the £7.5 million-worth of new Defenders bought by Twisted before Land Rover ceased production in 2016? Well, the North Yorkshire firm has announced that 45 more of that once 240-car strong collection will be released for sale tomorrow in its ‘Remake History’ range, which comes 18 months after the first batch of ‘Classic Series I’ cars were launched.
This new lineup ought to stir even more excitement in Defender aficionados because it will include models which take their influence from the special Lightweight and Stage One V8. Details to be taken from the former, which was made famous by its use in the British army between 1968 and 1984, include a canvas roof, half height doors and a fold down screen. The V8’s focus will be on luxury and power, as per the original, with each of these 15 cars using a GM 6.2-litre eight-cylinder.
Also available in the 2019 batch will be Classic Series IIA and Classic Series III-inspired models. The IIA cars will be the first to get Twisted’s new Rostyle wheels and new body accents, while the III cars receive additional comfort-enhancing features in a nod to the later model’s updates. This being a Defender, such enhancements are focused around soundproofing and tinted glass, as well as a ‘safari stripe’, to emphasise the later Land Rover’s hipline.
Each of the 45 cars – all of which have remained unused and with only delivery mileage in a secret Yorkshire warehouse since 2016 – will cost from £80,400. Although given the enthusiasm of buyers in this market, the total value of optional parts fitted to each is likely to push that figure up by a decent margin. Charles Fawcett, boss of Twisted Automotive, said: “We want Defender fans to experience a vehicle unlike any others they’ve ever seen or loved. Each build showcases, and reflects, key milestones in the design history of the original Defender.”
Twisted expects to have sold all of its remaining brand new Defenders within four years, meaning, unless some other brand crops up claiming to have held back a few unused Defenders, these cars really are from the end of the line. Of Twisted’s first batch of ‘Classic Series I’ cars, only three remain available.
