Bugatti has done it again. The one-off 1,500-hp Bugatti La Voiture Noire captivates on a level few automakers can match—not bad for the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, where we’ve seen multiple debuts of hypercars with at least 1,000 hp. Maybe it’s the price; the La Voiture Noire’s new owner will pay just under $19 million after taxes. Or it could be the car’s story. Built to mark Bugatti’s 110th anniversary, the striking car pays homage to the Type 57SC Atlantic, a car developed and driven by Jean Bugatti, and one that went missing before World War II.
Since the very first Veyron amazed enthusiasts years ago, modern Bugattis have pushed the limits of performance and design. So what did the internet have to say about the Bugatti La Voiture Noire? Read on.
Did you guys see the Bugatti La Voiture Noire? What a masterpiece. I’ve always had a soft spot for Bugatti, since I feel the EB110 is the coolest car ever made. The Veyron didn’t grab me at all. Glad to see they’re back with another off the charts amazing looking machine. @MouretsuV Mar 06 2019
You read our minds, SW. The La Voiture Noire may be destined for a very lucky (and very rich) buyer’s garage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all have a piece of it, too. Or, at least, a model-car version of it.
The latest Bugatti’s styling polarized opinions on social media, with a couple Instagram commenters noting how comical the six-outlet exhaust setup looked. As we explained in our previous coverage of the La Voiture Noire, some Atlantics also had six pipes.

Then there’s Instagram’s stigegyptiancousin, who suggests that Grand Theft Auto Online should add this car to the game. But why limit appreciation of the Bugatti to a game? daltoonnnn on Instagram described the one-off as the “most expensive hot wheel I’ve seen.” Not all responses were as straightforward.

Well, both cars are sleek. Some found the new Bugatti menacing:
I’m not sure this new #Bugatti was worth $19 million…pic.twitter.com/p4MRPNu52b @TheGamerScot Mar 06 2019
Twitter’s JWB28 might disagree with that.

As Jonny Lieberman wrote about the Bugatti, “I might also add that for nearly $19 million I’d like a little more power than some bozo in a 1,500-hp Chiron.” And despite the slinky styling, Stefan Walter on Facebook said that he found there was too much Divo and not enough Atlantic in the design, adding that it would make a killer Batmobile.

In an industry with electrified powertrains rolling out on everything from affordable family sedans to some of the most powerful hypercars, Rodger Wilson on Facebook took issue with the 16-cylinder car’s non-hybrid powertrain:
“That is the most beautiful car I have ever seen, but why in the hell is it not electric?”
Perhaps our favorite reaction was from Walter T Harrington. Keep that dream alive, Walter:
“My credit score is 750, wonder what type of financing I could get?“
