One of Volkswagen’s final internal-combustion vehicles is entering its final development drives and, by 2024, the rest of the world will get their new 2025 VW Tiguan SUV. While we’ll have to wait a bit longer for our version, we can still look at this camouflaged tester for hints about what we’ll get. If it’s anything close to this prototype, we’re in for a treat.

The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan Has Hints of ID4
It’s clear that VWs ID4 is really influencing the latest design of the Tiguan. The new IQ Light HD matrix headlights blend into a small bar between the hoodline break and the grille panel. The lights were designed jointly with the Touareg and brings premium lighting to a midsized SUV.
Cargo Room Increases
You won’t have to worry about downsizing your travel gear in the mid sized Tiguan, however. The 2025 SUV is slightly longer to improve its luggage capacity by 1.17 cubic feet, making the cargo room now 22.88 cubes when loaded to the top of the rear seats’ backrests, according to Volkswagen.
A New, Electronically Controlled Suspension System
Riding on the MQB Evo platform has allowed Volkswagen to add a new adaptive suspension system from the Golf GTI: DCC Pro. This two-valve damper system works with the Vehicle Dynamics Manager to adjust shock firmness and is intended to make the Tiguan a more neutral and stable vehicle.
More Engines (For Everyone Else)
The MQB Evo platform also allows Volkswagen to use more engines in the Tiguan. The rest of the world will get a TDI, a TSI, a mild-hybrid eTSI, and a plug-in hybrid eHybrid. The U.S. version will most likely not get the TDI, but we expect the rest to come over.
eHybrid Gets 62 Miles of All-Electric Range
With VWs push for electrification, the advancements thanks to its ID series means the new Tiguan eHybrid will get around 62 miles of all-electric range. In addition, AC charging on this PHEV will be much faster and you’ll be able to use DC fast chargers on the Tiguan for the first time.
Only a Little ID4 Influence Inside
While the ID4 can be seen in the design language of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, the interior doesn’t fully follow it and we’re thankful for that. Thankfully, the new interior gets much larger screens with a 15-inch infotainment screen and a much larger instrumentation screen.
All Tiguans Will Be DSG
One thing shared with the ID4 is how the new DSG (dual-clutch automatic) shifter works, as it’s exactly the same as the ID models. Twisting the stalk forward to “D” drives it forwards, twist backwards towards the “R” to reverse, and a side switch activates “Park.” This switch to DSG will also add paddle shifters to the Tiguan’s steering wheel.
A Global Best-Seller
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is an important launch for VW. Since 2007, more than 7.4 million people have bought one and this relaunch comes as the Wolfsburg brand is electrifying its lineup.
It Is the Last of the ICE-Powered VWs
The Tiguan also represents the beginning of the end of internal-combustion engines at Volkswagen. The Tiguan will be one of the final new ICE model for VW, and any new model from this point forward will be all-electric.
The U.S. Version Might Be Longer
Volkswagen has global ambitions for the long-wheelbase Tiguan variant we’ll likely get, which will be sold as the Tayron in other markets. We also don’t expect the TDI engine or the ID Lighting HD Matrix headlights to come Stateside. However, VW has not officially commented on what other differences there will be between the U.S. Tiguan and what the rest of the world will get.
Set to Formally Debut Later This Year
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan should get its global launch in the Fall of 2023 and go on sale in 2024. The U.S. version of the Tiguan should be announced not too long after that, possibly coming in 2024 as a 2025 or 2026 model year vehicle (and presumably the global Tayron will be detailed at the same time).
