Volkswagen has announced a new integrated sponsorship campaign with the US men’s, women’s and youth national soccer teams that will last through to 2022.
The sponsorship will see VW appear as the headline sponsor on all three of the national teams’ training jerseys. VW’s logo will also appear on the Para 7-a-side, Beach and Futsal National Teams jerseys as well.
In addition, the sponsorship campaign will also see VW aid in the development of US soccer players and coaches. VW has partnered with National Team coach Jill Ellis to help promote women into soccer coaching roles, funding programs that will inspire them to enter coaching positions and also teach them how to succeed in those roles.
“We need more women in coaching,” said Ellis. “Female athletes can relate to female coaches and provides them with the aspiration to get into coaching. I’m looking forward to seeing how this partnership will provide more opportunities to develop female coaches in the future.”
VW also plans to implement initiatives to increase the sport’s visibility in the country and promote greater fan engagement.
“We are absolutely thrilled about this partnership with U.S. Soccer,” said VW American CEO Scott Keogh. “Our program is about helping to grow this great sport in the U.S. We’re calling it One Goal – and the first step is making it easier for women to stay with the sport and pass on their wisdom and passion and love to the next generation of players. Soccer is the People’s Sport and Volkswagen is the People’s Car.”
VW said its logo will continue to appear on in-stadium and training camp logo ad placements and will appear on U.S. Soccer creative materials and social media pages going forward.
The VW sponsorship comes at an exciting time for the US national team, with the men’s team about to embark on a four-year journey to try and make it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
