The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is coming, and we know exactly when: January 14, 2019. That’s when it’s going to be unveiled at the North American International Auto Show and all of its well-kept secrets will spill out into the ether, and we’ll know exactly how much horsepower comes from its yet-to-be-confirmed multiple-cylinder engine. Okay, we’re at least pretty sure it’s going to have a supercharged V8 — at least that’s what the teaser Ford revealed last week hints.
Now the prying eyes at the Mustang 6G Forum might have gotten their hands on some insider intel. According to the spec sheet above, the next Shelby GT500 will have 720 hp from a 5.2-liter V8. That puts the next super Shelby ahead of both the Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in horsepower bragging rights. the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon still bests it, but that’s off the assembly line. However, the Challenger Hellcat Redeye — a Demon deriviative — will still top the modern muscle horsepower charts at 797.
