If you haven't clicked play on the video above yet, hold on. We need to temper your expectations. The builder of this flat-out insane, double 1JZ, quad-turbocharged V12, Don Groff, is only taking it for a walk in the park and not hammering down on public roads. Still, what the holy mother of God are we looking at here?
From what we've found, Groff took two 1JZ Toyota inline-six engines, combined them together in a 120-degree V, slapped on some turbos and put it into this classic F1 car/"Fast and Furious" flip-car mashup over the course of the last four years. But here's the actual breakdown according to Groff's nephew on Reddit. There's more than 300 comments there if you want to read through.
Cut the bottoms from two Toyota Supra inline 6 cylinder motors
Machined, welded, stress-relieved and align-bored a crankcase for 120 degree V angle.
Purchased a custom crankshaft from Scat with SB Chevy main bearings, Honda rod bearings. Honda H-beam rods too
Bolted cylinder blocks to crankcase using Toyota oil drain back holes modified.
Reversed one head so there are common ports to the center of the motor.
Put the exhaust ports to the center just for giggles.
Fabricated an oil pan from 3/4-inch aluminum plate and mounted a dry sump pump.
Built two cam drives and a serpentine drive for alternator and twin water pumps.
Started exhaust headers … no intake yet.
This is a 5.0-liter/300-cubic-inch, turbocharged to a target of 800 hp
There's also a load of build pictures here at his Imgur site, where you can sort of see the process of what went into this amazing build. Comments, as you'd expect, range from "hell yeah" to "[email protected] yeah," the only sticking point being "this should have went in a Miata."
Obviously it's not street-legal. You need lights, mirrors and stuff for that. But would you have the huevos (or huevas?) to take this on track? Get your goggles ready.
