Daniel Ricciardo 'sweated' out his Styrian frustrations

Disappointed with his result at the Stryian Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo opted to sweat out all the “anger and toxins” from his body.

The McLaren driver recorded his worst result since joining the Woking team at the start of this year, finishing P13 at the Red Bull Ring last Sunday.

Although he made a good start to the grand prix, a brief loss of engine power saw him fall down the order.

Despite his efforts, he wasn’t able to recover, leaving him both angry and frustrated.

The Aussie said in the wake of the race that when “it’s low, it’s really low, the sport. This was one of those days I really didn’t love it.”

But the Honey Badger is already back to his usual sunny disposition thanks to a session in the sauna.

“Ultimately I woke up Monday morning, I sweated all the – whatever you want to call it – anger and toxins out of my body,” he told reporters in Austria.

“I was in the sauna for a while and then I felt pretty good, and then it was all eyes ahead for this weekend.”

Formula 1 is back at the Red Bull Ring this weekend for round two of the double-header, the Austrian Grand Prix.

He added: “I think I’m very passionate, and therefore I also do get very emotional. Sunday I was p*ssed. The race actually started well.

“I was behind George [Russell] who was also having a good race, and then it all kind of went backwards for me first and then backwards for George as well.

“I think it looked promising for both of us and got away from us very quickly, I believe through no fault of our own, but that’s racing. It’s motorsport.

“So Sunday night for sure I was a little bit down, and it’s not really the atmosphere. You want to go out and have a good one.”

Ricciardo is hoping for a “smooth” second weekend in Austria, one that may even result in a podium for him to celebrate his 32nd birthday.
