Robert Kubica says the feeling he had for his FW42 “completely disappeared” for qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Polish driver finished the slowest of the field yet again, with team-mate George Russell stretching his qualifying winning record over him to 5-0.
After feeling confident in the car at the start of the weekend, Kubica was left shocked when all that feeling and confidence went in Q1.
Speaking to reporters after his elimination, he said: “It’s strange. I started the weekend with a positive feeling in FP1, and then this feeling completely disappeared session by session.
“I just have no feeling in the car, struggled to commit to the corners. Still struggling with oversteer, especially the last run where the track was getting better.
“The run before I lost quite a lot of lap time in the last sector due to one Ferrari which was opening the lap.
“The last set of tyres was very strange. I had massive oversteer and I wasn’t expecting it.”
A challenging #Quali in the cooler conditions. A strong lap from #GR63 though nets him the 19th fastest time with #RK88 20th. #SpanishGP ?? pic.twitter.com/a6Xjcf179m

While Kubica was left slating the Williams, Russell was the opposite to his more experienced team-mate, saying he felt “alright” in qualifying although he will start at the back due to his five-place grid penalty.
“It [qualifying] was alright, considering the circumstances,” he said.
“Thank you to the guys for getting my car ready after my error in free practice. I then went for another spin at the start [of qualifying] when Antonio Giovinazzi got in my way.
“So, I didn’t really know what to think going into my last lap.”
