Fernando Alonso has taken to Twitter to mock reports that he and McLaren have ended their partnership.
GPFans, quoting Motorsport Magazine, claim that the disappointment of the IndyCar project between Alonso and McLaren proved too much and they went their separate ways as a result.
However, the Spaniard took a swipe at the reports on Twitter, shutting them down as a mistimed “April fools” and a desperate attempt for “clicks”.
Vaya día!!! Y no es 28 de diciembre ni nada ! ???????
What a day!!! And is not April fools or anything!!! ??????#inventing #clicks ?♂️??

Alonso left Formula 1 at the end of 2018 as he looked to pursue ventures outside of Formula 1, while remaining involved with McLaren as an ambassador as he chases that famed “Triple Crown” of racing.
That being said, he can’t seem to escape the rumours of a Formula 1 return with the Woking outfit, even though the team joked they would need “three cars” if he returned, such is their satisfaction with Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris, while Alonso recently insisted he doesn’t miss Formula 1.
Asked if he missed the sport, he told his Instagram story: “Not a lot, the chapter I had was better than my most optimistic dreams!
“And the same motives that made me decide not to continue, continue to be present…;)
“Being able to compete and trying to win in other disciplines forces me to rise to a level I didn’t have before.
“Very happy.”
