The FIA has confirmed that the shutdown period for all Formula 1 teams has been extended to 63 consecutive days.
Formula 1’s governing body initially brought forward the three-week summer break which usually occurs in August as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep Formula 1 out of action.
The original period was 21 days, but on April 7 it was extended to 35 days.
Now though the World Motor Sport Council have ratified another extension which means the period will now run until the end of May or early June, depending on when each team officially began the shutdown of its operations.
The extension means that the total period now stands at 63 consecutive days.
In addition the shutdown period for power unit suppliers has also been extended into June from 35 to 49 consecutive days.
The FIA did confirm though that after 50 days of the shutdown teams can use up to 10 staff “to work remotely on long lead time projects”.
The same will apply for power unit manufacturers after 36 days.
“Fifty days after the start of their shutdown period, upon application by a Competitor, and subject to the prior written approval of the FIA, each Competitor may use the services of a maximum of ten personnel to work remotely on long lead time projects,” the sporting regulations now read.
“The full details, including the names and job titles of all such personnel, all supporting material, and details of the work that such personnel will be undertaking must be provided to the FIA a minimum of ten days prior to the commencement of any work.
“These personnel must not change for the remainder of the shutdown period and this work must not involve any work on projects related to the aerodynamics of the car.”
Plans are in place for the Formula 1 season to start in Austria from July 3-5.
