Sebastian Vettel topped a rather drab and dreary FP2 session in Hungary as the rain limited Friday afternoon running in Budapest.
Vettel was quickest with a 1:40.464 which was two tenths quicker than Valtteri Bottas, but the timesheet just had 12 drivers with timed laps on the board as the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Daniel Ricciardo stayed largely in the dry and comfort of their garages.
The heavens opened during the break between FP1 and FP2 at the Hungaroring, but thankfully it wasn’t as heavy and persistent as the conditions which cancelled the FP3 at the Styrian Grand Prix.

Pierre Gasly, who missed the whole of FP1 due to a confirmed sensor problem on his AlphaTauri, was the first to brave the weather but there was an initial widespread reluctance for others to follow.
15 minutes later, Sergio Perez in the much talked-about RP20 was the second driver to head out and have the track to himself.
Even though the Mexican had to do plenty of wrestling with his steering wheel and had a brief trip over the gravel trap, he was given the call from the pit wall to stay out and continue for another couple of laps.
Sadly, with half of the session there were just three timed laps on the board from Stroll, Perez and Raikkonen, although Esteban Ocon did venture out on what was still a very wet track with intermediates. He soon came back in.
It did, however, act as encouragement for other drivers, namely Vettel, Leclerc, Kvyat and Ricciardo to head out themselves – albeit still on the wet tyres.
With 30 minutes left of the session, there were nine timed laps on the timesheet with Vettel quickest with a 1:40.464. Bottas would close to within two tenths on his first push lap out from the pits but that was about exciting as the session got as the pace never really quickened.
