Five-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon will tackle the Bathurst 12 Hours in February.
Five-time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon will compete in Australia’s Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race in 2020 alongside co-drivers Rick Kelly and Jake Dennis in the No. 76 R-Motorsport entry.
The group will pilot an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 with sponsorship from Castrol in the International GT Challenge season-opener on February 2.
With the closure of Ford’s factory-supported Chip Ganassi Racing GT operation, this will allow the Kiwi to scratch his off-season road racing in advance of his 18th full-time season at the highest level of North American open-wheel racing.
Dixon competed in three IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship events for the Ganassi team in 2020. He won the 2006 and 2015 Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with Ganassi and class triumphs in GTLM in 2018.
This will be Dixon’s first-time racing at the venerable Mount Panorama Circuit.
“I have never raced at Bathurst before, but I’ve watched races at the Mount Panorama Circuit back when I was a teenager,” Dixon said in a Bathurst 12 Hour statement. “What I like most about the circuit is the high commitment, especially across the top, the high-speed passages and then down the chase and all the way to the last corner. It’s much like a street course with the concrete walls and the very confined spots. You need an extremely good flow.”
A second R-Motorsport car line-up has yet to be revealed. The team is looking for its first victory at Mount Panorama after finishing second in 2019.
