McLaren’s Lando Norris wants a strong showing at the Spanish Grand Prix as he looks to “hit the ground running” in familiar territory.
After scoring points in Bahrain and Azerbaijan, Norris is looking forward to the more familiar “European season”, with the upcoming Spanish GP at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya serving as a track the rookie knows well.
Speaking via TheChequeredFlag, he said: “I’m looking forward to starting the European season; there are a few circuits coming up that I’ve raced at before, including Barcelona.
“Racing at tracks I know helps me hit the ground running when preparing for the weekend.”
As well as his experiences of this track from the junior formulas, Norris comes to Barcelona armed with the knowledge he gained from pre-season Formula 1 testing here.
And with the 19-year-old admitting that “only feels like yesterday”, he will hope to use that familiarity to add to his tally of 12 points already in 2019.
“It only feels like yesterday that we were in Spain for pre-season testing,” he explained.
“Heading back to where we first tested the car should give us a good indication of the car’s performance and the areas we need to improve.
“It’s also good to have the Brand Centre back for the European races, it really adds to the atmosphere in the paddock.”
