Despite an early spin, Lando Norris was still able to win the latest IndyCar iRacing Challenge event on his debut.
The Briton has seriously upped his Esports activities since the Formula 1 season was put on hold.
And in his latest competition he crossed over to the world of IndyCar, entering the Circuit of the Americas round of the IndyCar iRacing Challenge.
The 20-year-old suffered a spin on lap 12 of the 32-lap race, but such was his impressive pace he was able to pass Arrow McLaren SP teammate Pato O’Ward with four laps left to take the lead and go on to victory.
Norris had started from pole after setting a time almost half a second up on Team Penske veteran Will Power.
While this was Norris’ first IndyCar virtual event, he is experienced with the iRacing platform, and one day he wants to compete in the real-life Indianapolis 500.

Speaking about the race, as quoted by Autoweek, Norris said: “I knew it was going to be really tough.
“Then I saw Will (Power) spin. I was kind of a bit confused as to where everyone else was. Felix pitted. Everyone was kind of on different strategies.
“It was a bit weird at the time. I knew I had good pace. Honestly, I didn’t think I would be able to get back to the lead. I really didn’t. But our strategy was really good from what I think we did. We spent a lot of time discussing the strategy and our different options.
“We kind of took a different route to a lot of the other guys, one that helped. I think I managed to pass a lot of people in the right areas and not lose too much time. I slowly made my way back to the front. It really wasn’t easy.”
