Lawrence Stroll closing in on £200m Aston Martin stake – reports

Racing Point owner, Lawrence Stroll, is believed to be closing in on acquiring a major stake in struggling luxury car maker Aston Martin.

Stroll, who who has an estimated worth of over £2 billion through investments and fashion brands, was first connected to Aston  Martin by a joint report produced by Autocar and RaceFans.net back in late 2019.

Now Bloomberg are reporting that Stroll is in ‘advanced discussions’ to inject in the region of £200 million into Aston Martin.

Aston Martin declined to discuss any specific deals when pressed for a response that Stroll was indeed close to becoming a major shareholder.

“We remain in discussion with potential strategic investors in relation to building longer term relationships which may or may not involve an equity investment,” Aston Martin said in a statement.

The report also states that Aston Martin could also secure separate, extra investment with Chinese tycoon Li Shufu, whose Geely Group also have control over Volvo and Lotus, whilst also having a minor stake in Daimler AMG.

Aston Martin are currently title sponsors of the Red Bull Formula 1 team, but the initial report by Autocar and RaceFans.net stated that Stroll would be keen on reintroducing the famous Aston Martin green to Racing Point ahead of the new season.
