Leclerc shocked by big damage from kerb

Charles Leclerc was left scratching his head as to how much damage was caused by going over a kerb during Q2 ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix.

A patch-up job was needed on Leclerc’s SF90 as parts came flying off the Ferrari when feeling the full effect of the one of the sausage kerbs in Q2.

It is now the second Q2 incident in a row for Leclerc who crashed out of qualifying at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Castle section.

Leclerc had to settle for P5 on the grid for Sunday’s race in Spain, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen once again sandwiching himself in between the two Ferrari cars.

“I’m not very happy,” Leclerc told Sky Sports F1.

“But on the other hand I don’t really understand how I could lose that much of the car on the kerb. I did not expect it.

“I got a little bit of understeer but kept the car flat, thinking everything would be fine but unfortunately we broke quite a lot and then had to stop again.

“It is still unclear to me, in Q3 the balance was very strange, so we need to check the car and see if everything is fine.

“But anyway it would not have [made much difference]. We were slower than the Mercedes today and that’s it.”
