Lewis Hamilton has pledged $500,000 to charity after being left heartbroken by the devastation caused by the Australian bushfires.
Over 10 million hectares of Australian land has been burnt as a result of the wildfires that have swept across the country.
Aussie Daniel Ricciardo has made personal donations to charity and will also put a signed race suit up for auction after the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in May.
And now Hamilton has said via his social media channels that he has made his own significant contribution to help all those affected by the disaster.
“It breaks my heart to see the devastation caused by the Australian bushfires are causing to people and animals across the country,” Hamilton said on Twitter.
“I’m pledging $500k to support the animals, wildlife volunteers and rural fire services. If you are able to, and you haven’t already, you can too.”

Hamilton then tagged a number of specific charities where donations can help those affected.

Given the severity and scale of the wildfires, there is concern over whether the season opener in Melbourne will go ahead in March.
However, race organisers are confident that the race weekend will go ahead unless there is decline in the air quality surrounding the Albert Park circuit.
