Max Verstappen crashes on way to the grid

Red Bull’s weekend went from bad to worse after Max Verstappen went into the wall on his way to the grid for the Hungarian GP.

A parade lap before taking your spot on the grid is meant to be a simple task for drivers, but the greasy track due to earlier rain certainly complicated things.

And for Verstappen it proved too much after he slid off at Turn 12 and went into the barriers.

He got going again but the front wing was gone and there appeared to be serious damage to the front-left steering arm.

The team then wheeled Verstappen to his grid spot before beginning frantic repair work to get him ready for the race.

Max Verstappen

The Dutchman is set to start the race from P7 after finishing qualifying 1.4s down on pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton.

It was a big step backwards from this time last year when Verstappen took pole for the 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Remarkably Red Bull were able to get Verstappen ready for the race start, and after that “unbelievable” drama, he said “thank you” over team radio.

It was a fantastic start for Verstappen as he rose to P3 on the opening lap and soon put heavy pressure on Lance Stroll for P2.

The track would dry quickly and after the rush into the pits was complete Verstappen comfortably held P2.
