Max Verstappen takes first step to redemption in Brazil

One year after losing out on victory in Brazil due to a controversial crash with Esteban Ocon, Max Verstappen took the first step towards redemption with pole for the Brazilian GP.

Ahead of FP3, a very familiar face passed on some last words of advice to his good friend Sebastian Vettel.

While the return of Ferrari’s pace was clear for all to see, it was Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton who was the man to beat heading into qualifying. Max Verstappen was a very close P2.

An engine problem for Carlos Sainz meant he failed to set a lap in Q1 and dropped out along with Robert Kubica, George Russell, Lance Stroll and Daniil Kvyat.

Max Verstappen topped the session 0.25s ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Verstappen was on top again after Q2. His advantage over Leclerc was up to over 0.3s, but Leclerc had been running the medium compound while Verstappen was on the softs.

Sergio Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, Antonio Giovinazzi, Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris were the drivers to fall short of the shootout for pole.

It was a clean sweep for the Dutchman who took pole for the Brazilian Grand Prix…but what awaits him on Sunday we wonder?
