McLaren sign multi-year deal with Cisco Webex | F1 News by PlanetF1

McLaren have announced a new multi-year deal which will see Cisco Webex become the team’s official collaboration partner.

Cisco Webex, a videoconferencing software firm, will see their platform integrated into McLaren Racing’s day-to-day activities, with their cloud-based suite of tools allowing McLaren to “overcome geographical boundaries and create virtual experiences that bring fans and partners closer to the team”.

In a statement McLaren said that “beginning in 2021, Cisco Webex will power McLaren Slipstream, a livestreaming service for McLaren’s partners, to deliver exclusive behind-the-scenes insights into the McLaren Formula 1 team.

“Since trialling the service last summer, McLaren has used the pioneering livestream platform to enable its partners and guests greater access to the team from any location.”

As part of the deal Cisco Webex branding will feature on the halos and sidepods of the McLaren MCL35M challengers that will contest the 2021 season, as well as on the race suits of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo.

“We are delighted to announce this partnership and welcome Cisco Webex to our team,” said Mark Waller, chief commercial officer of McLaren Racing.

“The ability to connect with others around the world has never been more important and working with Cisco Webex will continue to help us bring our fans and partners closer to the heart of our team.”

Jeetu Patel, SVP and GM of security & applications at Cisco, added: “More than ever before, innovators like McLaren understand the importance of enabling world-class technologies to bring together their audiences regardless of location and distance.

“We’re excited to be joining forces with McLaren to deliver unmatched, immersive experiences that bridge the needs of their fans, partners, and drivers alike during this shift to hybrid sports – whether on or off the racetrack.”

McLaren head into the 2021 season with ambitions of building on what was a solid campaign for the team in 2020.

With two podium finishes to their name, McLaren secured P3 in the 2020 Constructors’ Championship, their best showing since 2012.

And although Carlos Sainz has moved on to Ferrari, McLaren are full of optimism having gained the services of seven-time race winner Daniel Ricciardo who makes the switch from Renault.
