The dark clouds have followed Daniel Ricciardo to Interlagos as he will suffer a grip drop at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The last race in Mexico represented Ricciardo’s eighth DNF of what has turned into a very miserable 2018 campaign.
Ricciardo is still hoping to clinch one final podium with Red Bull before he leaves for Renault at the end of the season, but he is already up against it in Brazil this weekend.
As FP1 got underway, the FIA confirmed Ricciardo has had a new turbocharger fitted to his cursed RB14, which will trigger a 10-place grid drop for Sunday’s race.
It is the Aussie’s sixth TC of the campaign, that further exceeds the maximum limit of three per season.

Red Bull sent Ricciardo out for the start of FP1 very early in an attempt to restrict the damage of the grid penalty.
If other drivers also have penalties in Brazil, Ricciardo’s will be applied first and could stop him from lining up from P20 come Sunday.
But, all the other 19 drivers appear to be starting the weekend on a clean slate with no further grid penalties enforced thus far.
